Originally published as the Mary Maxim Crochet Along pattern for May 2021 (published across 3 blog posts), the Blythe Handbag quickly became one of my most popular patterns! Now available in Ravelry and Etsy in PDF format–you can access this pattern so much more easily now! I love this handbag just as much as when I first designed it. It works up quickly in bulky yarn. It has amazing texture. The stitches are easy and fun. If you haven’t given this pattern a try, check it out. It’s perfect for gifts, product makers, or make-for-yourself projects! Gather a few crocheting friends and work on it together for your very own crochet along!

Type of Yarn
I used Aspen bulky yarn provided by Mary Maxim for this pattern. I was impressed with the yarn colors, quality, feel, and final result. You can read my review of Aspen yarn HERE.
You can use any bulky yarn (weight 5) to crochet this pattern. You could even hold 2 strands of worsted weight (4) yarn together if you don’t have bulky in your stash. I love how Ashley’s (Wish Upon a Hook) Blythe Handbag turned out in a solid neutral colored yarn.
Handles
So many people have chosen different handles for their Blythe Handbags. One of my favorites is Nicole’s, (Handmade by Yarn Mama) purse made with contrasting colors. She chose to add leather straps to her bag. The look is very classy. You can grab handles just like this on Amazon, and they come in a variety of colors.
I chose round wooden handles for my bag; they’re also available on Amazon. Sold in packs of 2-pairs, I like the price point, and I like the shape and feel of the handle.
You can also crochet your own handles and attach them or find a different style of manufactured handle. There are a lot of options available on Amazon and other craft outlets. Don’t be afraid to try something completely different. Be sure to share your completed Blythe Handbag with me so I can see how awesome it is!
