SO, what exactly does that mean for you, the crafter, content creator, and / or designer? Here’s what it means: I am here to help you polish your written materials so that you present your best self and best product to your customer.
What do I know?
You may be wondering, “What does AMBER know about writing?”
Well, I’m so glad you wondered! Here’s the scoop! I am an English instructor (with over 25 years experience) at universities and colleges, specializing in teaching international students and immigrants how to read, write, speak, and understand English in academic (read: university) and everyday settings! I teach grammar and writing classes all the time! Not only do I have a bachelor’s degree in Writing and Literature, I also have a master’s in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages). Add to that 8 years of experience as a contract proofreader/editor for a translation company. Now add to THAT 8 years of experience as a crochet pattern designer. I’m ideally suited to help you with your writing!

What’s Special about My Writing Support Services?
I offer tech editing for crochet patterns. As a teacher, my strength is in helping you learn the skills, techniques, and information you need to move from “I think, maybe, I sort of wrote an okay pattern” to “I nailed it! This pattern is amazing and so well-written!” I don’t want to just tech edit your pattern, I want to work with you to help you build your skills and become an amazing writer and designer.
If you are new to pattern designing, I would love to help you build your pattern inventory. If you are a seasoned designer who is looking for a new tech editor, I’m here to help you make your work continue to shine. What Does It Mean?
Hey! I know my words, my grammar, and my mechanics (nope, not THOSE mechanics. Mechanics are things like spelling, punctuation, formatting, etc.). But, what can I do for you? Well, as a life-long crafter, designer, pattern writer, and blogger, I have unique insight into the crafting/crochet world. I understand the topics you write about, and I know how to put words together and make them sound and LOOK good! Basically, I am a document janitor. I clean up after you write. Even the greatest of writers still need someone to sweep the cobwebs out of their writing, so to speak.
Common Problem Areas I Can Help With
Some of the things I typically correct and/or make suggestions on are:
- word confusion
- vocabulary variation / use of synonyms
- pronoun referents and consistency in usage
- tone of voice
- unity (all on one topic)
- cohesion (basically the flow of your piece)
- sentence variation
- clarity suggestions
- removing redundancy
- commas and other punctuation errors
- capitalization errors
- errors with apostrophes (This guy‘s a killer to try and understand!)
- spelling errors (Yep, they can still happen even with spell check!)
- formatting errors
- suggesting how to make your writing more clear
- suggesting how to make your topic more interesting
- AND THE LIST GOES ON
As you can see, being a proofreader/editor consists of a lot more than just putting commas in the right places and moving a few words around. YES! It’s a lot of work to make your writing shine, but I’m here to help.
