It’s time to present the Blue-tiful Earring pattern to the world! This new free crochet pattern was first published in Happily Hooked Magazine last summer. I created it specifically with the 2020 Pantone color of the year in mind! Therefore, the name BLUE-TIFUL just fit perfectly!

Now, it’s a new year, and it’s time to make this pattern available to everyone! If you haven’t made any of my earring patterns yet, this is a fun one to start with. It is DEFINITELY a STATEMENT EARRING! However, if you’re more of a delicate and dainty earring wearer, just leave off the last 2 rounds of the earring. Either way, it’s PERFECT!

A statement earring that says it all, and it’s a free crochet pattern!

What kind of statement do you like to make with your earrings? Are you a small studs, delicate hoops, or giant dangle gal? Do your tastes fit somewhere in the middle? Perhaps it depends on your mood? Are you just a little bit of everything? I tend toward middle-range eclectic earring style. That’s a thing, right?

Depending on your style, this is the ideal earring to make for yourself, gift to a friend, or fill up your product line (if you’re a crochet product seller!).

About the Free Crochet Pattern

This is a beginner-friendly earring pattern. Don’t worry if you are not yet comfortable working with THREAD and a small size hook (1.75-2mm). I recommend beginning your project with the smallest yarn weight and hook size that you ARE comfortable with. Then, work your way down to thread. I’ve made this pattern in size 10 crochet thread, size 8 embroidery thread, and size 3 crochet thread (similar to a sport weight). The size 3 crochet thread made absolutely PERFECT miniature coasters. Use a worsted weight yarn and a 4mm or 4.5mm hook for a beautiful plant coaster for your small succulent pot! Really, you have no limits here. Use this pattern however you like!

So, let’s get to it! Here’s what you’ll need to make your Blue-tiful Earrings with this free crochet pattern!

Materials

Pattern Notes

  • All directions are written in US Crochet Terms.
  • Gauge is not essential for this project. Tighter stitches will result in earrings that hold their shapes better.
  • Instructions between parentheses ( ) are worked into the same st or sp.
  • Instructions between brackets [ ] are worked the total number of times specified.
  • When slip stitching to complete the earring in round 5, insert your hook in indicated st from the back to the front, pull the loop of your last stitch through to the back, and complete your slip stitch on the back side of the earring.
  • This pattern can be worked in any size crochet thread, embroidery thread or yarn and the appropriate hook. Experiment with different size threads and hooks to achieve smaller or larger earrings, pendants, or decorations.
Don’t limit yourself to creating earrings!

Stiffen crochet earrings

Place on wax paper on a flat surface or blocking mat. Spray both sides of earrings with stiffening spray. Adjust shape (pin to block if desired). Wait for earrings to dry. For this pattern, I did NOT pin to block. I just adjusted my outer two rounds so that the ch-spaces were laying the way I wanted. If you want a sharper look to the earrings, stretch out and pin the ch-spaces taut. You’ll create a large sun/star motif!

Assemble your crochet earrings

Open the loops on the ear-wires to the side with your flat nosed pliers. Slip any ch-6 sp into the earring loop. Close the ear-wire loop with the flat nosed pliers.

Your Blue-tiful Earrings are done! Enjoy!
