Free Crochet Pattern
This pattern utilizes a unique combination of stitches to give you a thick finished product. Ever Ridge is perfect for protecting your counters and tabletops. It is a great stash-buster too! You only need about 15 yards of the contrasting yarn.

Materials
- Worsted weight cotton or cotton blend yarn, (4), 2 colors.
Color A: 80 yards
Color B: 15 yards
- K 6.5 mm hook
- Large eye needle for weaving in ends
Abbreviation & Stitch Key
ch(s) = chain stitch
FPhdc = front post half double crochet
hdc = half double crochet
RS = right side
sc = single crochet
sl st = slip stitch
st(s) = stitch(es)
WS = wrong side
yo = yarn over
Special Stitches
Front post half double crochet (FPhdc) = Yo, insert hook from front to back to front around post of the stitch, yo and pull up loop, yo and draw through all loops on hook.
Pattern Gauge
13 hdc and 9 rows = 4” x 4”
Finished Measurements
One Size 8” X 7 ¾”
Pattern Notes
- All directions are written in US Crochet Terms.
- Pattern is written in three sections: the hot pad is created in rows, the stripes are added with surface slip stitching in one continuous piece in a contrasting color, and the edging/border is added last.
Directions
With Color A, ch 26.
Row 1: Hdc in second ch from hook and each across. [25 hdc]
Row 2: Ch 1, turn, FPhdc around each st across. [25 FPhdc]
Row 3: Ch 1, turn, sc in each st across. [25 sc]
Row 4: Ch 1, turn, sc through both loops of sc in row 3 and both loops of the corresponding hdc 3 rows below across. [25 sc]
Row 5: Ch 1, turn, hdc in each st across. [25 hdc]
Row 6: Ch 1, turn, FPhdc around each stitch across. [25 FPhdc]
Row 7: Ch 1, turn, sc in each stitch across. [25 sc]
Row 8: Ch 1, turn, sc through both loops of sc in row below and both loops of the corresponding hdc 3 rows below. [25 sc]
Rows 9-32: Repeat rows 5-8, 6 more times.
Fasten off color A.
Stripes
With color B, working on RS, sl st to first ch of potholder in Row 1, ch 2, turn to begin surface sl st in each st between rows 4 and 5. Ch 2, turn to begin surface sl st in each st between rows 8 and 9. Repeat until you have surface slip stitched between each ridge. Ch 2, sl st to last st made with color A. Do not fasten off.
Edging
Side 1: (WS) Ch 1, sc in each st across. [25 sc]
Side 2: Ch 6, sc in corner, (ch 2, sc between ridges (same place as sl st), 3 sc in ch 2 space (between sl st rows), sc between ridges (same place as sl st)) 4 times, ch 1. [15 ch, 20 sc]
Side 3: Sc in each st across the bottom edge. [25 sc]
Side 4: Sc in corner, (ch 2, sc between ridges, 3 sc in ch 2 space, sc between ridges) 3 times, ch 2, sc between ridges, 3 sc in ch 2 space, ch 1, sl st to first sc. [9 ch, 20 sc]
Fasten off. Weave in ends.
