When I started designing my Glowing Embers Vest which uses the absolutely fantastic FLAME Stitch, I just KNEW that I needed to create a pair of crochet earrings to match. After all, crocheted earrings are KIND OF my thing! This free crochet earring pattern will get you started on your earring addiction!
This is a fairly easy pattern, suitable for new earring makers. If this is your first time making earrings, I have a few tips for you!
EARRING PRO TIPS
- First, start with the smallest yarn or thread and hook that you are comfortable with, and work your way down to the size thread and hook in the pattern. There’s no rush to become competent with size 20 crochet thread and a 1.75mm hook all in one go.
- Second, tight tension is the key to a well-shaped earring.
- Third, don’t skip blocking. Not everyone likes to use stiffening spray (like I do), and that’s fine. However, a good blocking will ensure that your earrings hold their shape and have the same shape. If you don’t use stiffening spray, I do recommend getting your pieces wet and pinning or shaping them as desired and letting them dry.
- Finally, don’t give up. Everyone who’s ever crocheted baby booties will tell you, it takes a little practice to get 2 crocheted items to turn out the same size. HA! If at first you don’t succeed, JUST KEEP AT IT! An accidentally larger earring can turn into a fantastic matching pendant!

Stiffen Earrings
After weaving in and trimming ends, place your earring on wax paper on a flat surface or blocking mat. Next, spray both sides of earrings with stiffening spray. Adjust shape (pin to block if desired). Wait for earrings to dry.
Assembly
Open the loops on the ear-wires with your flat nosed pliers. Then slip earring between center two dc2tog stitches from Row 3. Close the ear-wire loop with the flat nosed pliers.
