The Keeps Watch Beanie is my 2026 contribution to the Crochet Cancer Challenge, hosted by Christine Naugle of Sweet Potato 3. It’s my 7th year participating in the challenge. This year’s hat is dedicated to those battling blood cancers. My dad lives with Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (CLL) which is a slow-developing leukemia. For those who battle cancer, support them, or care for them, this hat is dedicated to you as well. I’ve taken the name of this hat from my favorite Psalm that has comforted me in many stages of my life. I hope it comforts you as you make these hats for donation, gifting, or even for yourself.
The Lord keeps you from all harm
Psalm 121:7-8
and watches over your life.
The Lord keeps watch over you as you come and go,
both now and forever.

How It Works
- Visit the Crochet Cancer Challenge post each weekday in October.
- Download the featured free crochet hat pattern, using the coupon code found in the challenge post.
- Make at least one hat using each pattern you download.
- Donate your finished hat to a local hospital, cancer center, organization, or person you know battling cancer.

The Keeps Watch Beanie Details
Make the Keep Watch Beanie with 200 yards or less of DK (3) yarn. The texture of this hat is the main event, so a solid color will shine, but don’t be afraid to experiment with color changes or a variegated yarn. The pattern is written in 4 sizes: 16″, 18″, 20″ and 22″ circumferences. The 2-round repeat is simple enough to get into a rythm, but you will definitely learn something new while making this hat!
