The crochet Puff Pumpkin Ornament is a versatile crochet piece that you can hook up in any size thread or yarn. Size 3 cotton thread and a 2.75mm hook or dk (3) yarn and a 3mm hook will create perfect hanging ornaments. Worsted weight yarn and a 4.5mm hook makes a lovely coaster. Size 10 cotton thread and a 1.75mm hook turns into a sweet pair of earrings. It all depends on what you want to create. Use this pattern for buntings, gift-toppers, bookmarks, purse danglers, keychains, magnets and more!

The Challenge
Do you have some fun variegated scraps in your stash? Do you have orange yarn that someone gifted you, and you’ve just never gotten around to getting rid of it? Do you have dreams to make cute pumpkins to give out to trick-or-treaters in lieu of candy? Do you collect pumpkin patterns and add to your collection of crocheted pumpkins every year? Do you love the look of puffs but haven’t given them a true shot in your crochet repertoire yet?
Did you say yes to even 1/2 of one of those questions? I challenge you to give the Puff Pumpkin a try! My holiday ornament inspiration has been ALL ABOUT puffs this year, and I couldn’t resist adding a fall ornament to my puff line up.
Once you’ve finished your Puff Pumpkin, send me an email or find me on social media to share a photo! I can’t wait to see what you make. I’d love to share your projects.

Notes
- All directions are written in US Crochet Terms.
- Pattern calls for 2 colors. Up to 11 yards is needed for color A. Less than 1 yard is needed for color B.
- Gauge is not essential for this project, but tighter sts will result in an ornament / earring that holds its shape better. Stiffening spray will help with this too.
- Any size thread or yarn can be used for this pattern. Be sure to adjust hook size and yardage expectations.
- Parentheses ( ) in the pattern instructions indicate stitches that all belong in the same stitch or space.
- Brackets [ ] indicate stitches that will be repeated the number of times indicated
- This pattern can be worked in any size crochet thread or yarn and appropriate hook. Experiment with different size threads/yarns and hooks to achieve smaller or larger ornaments or earrings.

Stiffen Pieces
Place crocheted pieces on wax paper or plastic wrap on a flat surface or blocking mat. (The wax paper or plastic wrap protects your surfaces from build up of the stiffening spray.)
Spray both sides with stiffening spray. Use your fingers to work the spray through the fibers of the thread or yarn. If there is excess spray, gently squeeze it out with your fingers. You want the fibers to be saturated, but not dripping. Adjust shape and pin (or lay flat). Wait for pieces to dry.
Assembly Instructions
For Ornament: Cut a length of jute, hemp or coordinating yarn. Knot 2 ends together. Using your crochet hook, loop the yarn through one star point of ornament. Pull knotted end through loop. Hang ornament.
For Earrings: Open the loops on the earring hooks to the side with your flat nosed pliers. Slip one stitch from the star point onto the open loop. Close the loop of the earring hooks to the side with the flat nosed pliers.
