Crochet Beanie: Trinity Trust

Trinity Trust Crochet Beanie in pink to support the fight against breast cancer.

For the Crochet Cancer Challenge hosted by Christine of Sweet Potato 3

October is Cancer Awareness Month, and the annual Crochet Cancer Challenge is in its 7th year. I’m so humbled to be able to participate in this event with other amazing crochet designers and to introduce a brand new crochet beanie pattern!

The Crochet Beanie Challenge Explained

The participating designers are calling all crocheters to pledge to crochet as many beanies as possible. Crochet beanies are newly released limited time FREE patterns that we are offering in exchange for your donation of that beanie to a cancer patient or cancer center near you. We hope that this will reach around the world and touch many people during a very challenging time in their lives.

Help us all make a difference, one crochet beanie at a time.

How does the Crochet Beanie Cancer Challenge work?

It is as simple as this. Crocheters make beanies for cancer patients and cancer survivors. The beanies can be crocheted for just about anyone: someone you know, someone your friends know, a family member, a co-worker, a teacher, a neighbor, or a complete stranger.

You can make one crochet beanie or as many as you can and donate them to your local cancer center.

My Experience with Cancer

Cancer came REALLY close to the Calderón family this last year. My husband’s sister, Magui, was diagnosed with breast cancer. Many of you helped out with contributions, donations, and purchases. These funds helped Magui pay for treatments and travel expenses! I’m really happy to report that Magui’s surgery went well. Her doctors were very pleased with the results.

Next month, Magui will head back to Mexico City for a series of short but daily treatments of radiation for nearly a month. The money you helped us raise will make it possible! Hopefully, Magui is very near the end of her battle. Thank you to each person who helped us in this WIN against cancer!

My grandmother (the one who taught me to crochet doilies!!), my aunt, and César’s aunt have also battled breast cancer. It seemed only logical to design my crochet beanie in their honor. I hope you enjoy this design, and I hope you bless someone with it!

This beanie design is dedicated to Edie, Gloria, Amparo, and Magui! This is also dedicated to my unstoppable dad, Rod, who remains cancer free, 15 years after his own battle with cancer!

TRINITY TRUST CROCHET BEANIE

When I discovered the trinity stitch in my favorite crochet stitch book, I was immediately enamored. I use a variation of this stitch in the beanie pattern. Trinity is a very significant term to me. As a Christian, it is where I place my trust, in the 3-in-1 Trinity of God. Whether its battling cancer or the day to day battles of life, the Trinity Trust Crochet Beanie is a reminder that we are not alone, and we do have hope. I hope you find comfort in that as you stitch up this beanie.
