Oh My Snowflake is a quick project with only 3 rounds. It whips up quickly and you can make a pile of them to wear or gift. They make great tree ornaments and package toppers.

One of the things I LOVE about snowflakes is that they are ALL SEASON LONG appropriate! You can decorate with them and leave them up after the holidays. If UN-decorating at the end of the holidays is one of your weaknesses (like it is mine), this is the perfect solution!

Pattern Notes

  • US Crochet Terms.
  • Round 1, “ch 2, edc” counts as a ch-5 space.
  • Each time you crochet in the 5th ch from hook, you create a large picot st.
  • When crocheting around the large picot, be sure that your ch is in front of the bottom of the picot st and the working thread is behind the picot.
  • You can also make this pattern with yarn and a larger sized hook. Don’t skip blocking though. Without blocking, the snowflake will not lay flat.
  • This video is helpful for creating your magic circle. It’s my no-fail magic circle method.

Blocking and Assembly

Stiffen snowflakes (This step is necessary to maintain snowflake shape.)
Place snowflake on wax paper on a flat surface or blocking mat. Spray both sides of piece with stiffening
spray. Adjust shape and pin in place. Wait for snowflakes to dry.

For earrings, open the loops on the earring hooks to the side with your flat nosed pliers. Slip earring loop through any large picot. Close the earring hook loops with the flat nosed pliers.

For ornaments, loop a piece of yarn, jute or ribbon through any large picot.
