New for Summer: Long Cotton Crochet Wrap

Maggie-Rose Wrap

Welp! I did it again! I created another non-earring pattern with thread. NOW, before you run screaming from this blog post, take a deep breath and stick with me. I promise it’ll be worth your while. Yes, this crochet wrap pattern was created with cotton thread–but size 3 thread. That’s not too crazy. And it gets better. I didn’t even use a teeny tiny hook. You can create this pattern with a 4.5mm hook. How awesome is that? No teeny-tiny stitches!

About the Cotton Crochet Wrap

I wanted something light to go over your shoulders that could last the day from a sweltering outdoor event to the cool of the evening. I imagined wearing this to a beautiful outdoor wedding. Of course, I don’t have any outdoor weddings to attend this summer, so I just wore it on a date with my husband! You can style it so many ways, and it’s super long, so there’s no chance of it slipping off your shoulders because the ends are too short. It also makes a great wrap for around your waist as a bottom-half swimsuit cover up.

What’s in a Name? The Maggie-Rose

When I was looking at this wrap, trying to figure out a name for it, I suddenly thought of my NEVER-MET-HER-BUT-LOVE-HER-DEARLY friend Karen. I “met” Karen about 3 or 4 years ago through testing for another designer. As I delved into designing, Karen was one of my first testers, AND SHE’S STUCK WITH ME THIS WHOLE TIME. I appreciate her attention to detail, amazing sense of humor, and ability to crochet ANYTHING. I do have a pattern named “Karen” -already–though it’s named after my sister-in-law. But suddenly, I couldn’t get a combination of Karen’s daughters’ names out of my mind, and I KNEW I had to name the wrap after them. And, the girls even modeled the wrap their mom made. I think they kind of nailed it. MUCH thanks to Karen for going through all kinds of testing ups and downs with me and for letting me name this pattern after her girls!

The Cotton Thread

I used We Crochet Cotton Curio #3 Thread. I’ve raved about it before! It comes in a great array of colors. It’s durable. It’s beautiful. It blocks out nicely. It’s a dream to work with. I’ve used everything between a 2.5mm and a 4.5mm with this thread. It works great for earrings, and other accessories as well as home décor. I used it for the Morgana Jewelry Set. I also used it for the Blue Cohosh Table Runner (available 7/15).

I used 2 balls of Comfrey and 1 ball of Hawk for my wrap.

I’d love to hear your experiences with Curio #3. Do you love it as much as I do?

Crochet Wrap Tester Results

One of the many great things about using testers is the ability to see the piece worked up in different yarns, worn by different people, and in different ways. I really think my testers nailed it. I love how they paired their colors and styled their wraps. You can check out more tester results in Ravelry Projects!

First up is Ashley. How this woman crochets so much and so fast is beyond me, but she’s amazing. She’s always willing to lend a hand. Shawls are KINDA HER THING. I’ve dubbed her THE SHAWL QUEEN. Check out her Instagram feed. It’s gorgeous! Ashley used Loops and Threads Woolike Yarn for her shawl and a 4mm hook. Of course, I love her color choices since they’re very similar to my own!

Anna is another repeat tester who is absolutely phenomenal with detail. Every time I get her notes, she floors me with her spectacular suggestions and feedback. If the pattern is any good, it’s because she helped get the wording consistent and caught any and every little error along the way. Thank you, Anna! Anna used Lion Brand Summer Nights and a 4.5mm hook for her wrap.

Fatima is another of my dearest NEVER MET HER BUT WISH I COULD friends. We actually had a DATE to meet last summer at the Our Maker Life event that was to be held in Portland in 2020. We all know how sideways those plans went. If we don’t have a Crochetmous Crew Admin Reunion BEFORE the make up event in 2022, at least I know I’ll get to HUG her in person then! Fatima used Yarn Bee’s  Yarntopia and her own hand dyed yarn for her wrap! If you haven’t visited Fatima’s shop, be sure to check it out! Her yarn is gorgeous, and she just added a new selection of pre-order yarn. Visit Aquarius Make on Etsy.

Finally, we could not escape without Maggie and Rose each doing their own pose in the wrap! We’ll call this an “Amber Original” pose. HA! I think Maggie and Rose do it better though. Karen also used Curio 3 to make the Maggie-Rose Wrap.

Maggie is nailing this pose too!
